I've made things. Some of it is good.

HAND WALKING

Stupid video I made after losing a war with my intrusive thoughts after watching a 60 Minutes documentary.

Garage Band

The Wildcard Charlies was a rock band from 2009 to 2015. We were really into bands like The White Stripes, The Black Keys, Queens of the Stone Age, and The Dead Weather.

We started off practicing in a dorm room and eventually moved to our drummer's parents' garage. We played at dive bars had a lot of fun.

DBZ AMV

I made this DBZ AMV to prove I still had that dawg in me. I spent a lot of time clipping bootleg anime in Windows Movie Maker as a kid.

Bear Apacalpyse Video Game

I made Bearly Alive to see if I could make a game. It never made it to Steam because of limitations of the Pygame engine. I consider it finished, because I was pretty burned out by the end. You can play it for free on itch.io and even works with a controller! The project was vibe coded and the art was an amalgamation of drawn and gen'd assets that were heavily manipulated in photoshop. I promise it will not give your computer a virus.

GOOD SALSA

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Cut all the veggies, deseed the peppers, and toss everything in olive oil.
  2. Broil everything in the oven at 450°F until blistered. The Roma tomatoes will take the longest. While the vegetables are in the oven, pour boiling water over the dried guajillo chili and let it soak.
  3. Drain off the excess liquid from the pan. This keeps the salsa from turning watery.
  4. Add everything to a blender with salt, pepper, cilantro, lime juice, and bouillon.
  5. Pulse lightly until you've got a chunky texture, not a puree.

FARMING PODCAST

I left a job in radio to work for a small agriculture news company for about a year. My news director was a total asshole, so getting out of there felt pretty good. There I hosted a podcast called Talking Crops. It was the first podcast I ever made professionally. I didn't know a damn thing about agriculture, but enjoyed it.

AgFax was owned by Debra and Owen. They were my friend's parents, but over time I came to think of them as friends too. Owen had been involved with my Scout troop when I was younger, and they were among the only I knew that watched BBC and listened to NPR other than my parents.

Debra was a photographer. She taught me how to write better headlines and how to properly color-edit photos. Owen had great stories and a real passion for the culture of the Mississippi Delta.

Debra and Owen died in a car accident in 2020. They taught me a lot about marketing, storytelling, and showed me how they ran a scrappy little business. Since working there, I've made podcasts for every organization I've worked for, some winning national awards.

RETRO TV SETUP

This is Spartacus playing on a Raspberry Pi 4 through a CRT, just as Kubrick intended.

I bought the CRT from a divorced redneck man who was chilling at his house watching Fox News at max volume.

Then bought some used DVDs like Constantine, Minority Report, and Underworld — whatever you would find in a college dorm-room in 2008.

The Wii is modded with a library of games like Mario Golf, Burnout, Smash Bros., Wii Sports, and Cooking Mama.

The whole thing is sitting on an old fruit crate that I put wheels on.

Probably my greatest creation.
